Eric Max Kaplin is an Art & Tech Director based out of TiohtiΓ :ke / Mooniyang / Montreal, QC #

With an extensive background in animation and interactive media, complemented by a knack for auto-didactic side-quests, he has developed a unique artistic voice that blends digital and traditional art with programming and tool development. As a professional animator, he is creative, versatile, and dependable.

Previously at E.D. FILMS, he has contributed to the success of keystone projects such as the award-winning short films Giant Bear and Retour Γ  Hairy Hill. Additionally, he spearheaded the innovative β€œPuppetTool” project as Lead Designer. His work in animation is characterized by blending 3D computer-generated imagery seamlessly into a classic, hand-made look.

In 2023, Kaplin pivoted his artistic focus in response to evolving trends in art and media. This shift marks a significant phase in his career, embracing an interdisciplinary art practice to explore and integrate various media, including sculpture, electronics, game engines, web-based art, performance, music and sound.

He graduated with distinction in Film Animation from Concordia University, where he also received the Concordia University Stop-Motion Award. In addition to working in his early career as a VFX Animator and Compositor at the renowned studio Tonic DNA, he has worked on a feature-film project by notable filmmaker Jean-François Laguionie.

Kaplin's films have been screened at the Fantasia Film Festival and the Montreal Stop-Motion Film Festival.
