Broken World (2015) #
This was a project I began with my pal Jack Carr. A group of his friends approached him to animate a music video. They had some broad ideas about what they wanted, leading us to develop concept images and storyboards. We envisioned a story centered on a planet during its final hours before a self-inflicted apocalypse, where only the wealthiest members of a decadent society could escape aboard a starship. Unfortunately, the band was unable to secure the necessary funding, preventing the video from advancing beyond the development stage.
Here are a few concept images from the project. The image below showcases the ship/escape-craft designed for the final scene. Its structure was inspired by the architecture of a renowned church, but its actual name and location escape me (even after an hour of googling). If you recognize the inspiration behind this design, please get in touch to let me know.
The following image presents a concept we intended to transform into an extensive panning background, moving from the very bottom to the topβor possibly the reverse. It depicts a city, expanded over centuries of constant growth, atop an ever-growing mountain of garbage and sewage. Note the escape-craft, prominently positioned at the pinnacle of the image, integrated into the top of a skyscraper. Part of the craft's design was directly photo-collaged using vintage photochrom travel-book imagery. Adjacent are the spiral towers, also derived from photochrom travel images, notably from the recognizable spiral structure of the "Church of Our Saviour" in Copenhagen.
Wow, you made it all the way to the bottom! Good job! Here's a link back to the top ;)
